I bought the book new for an RRP of $70 a few months ago. I hardly used it. I had no idea about the sale otherwise I would have told the person who won the auction. I feel so guilty! Should I refund $25? HELP?

Well, what's done is done.
And it is of no fault on your own.
So don't be too harsh on yourself :)

it's not your fault they didn't shop around. besides, they still spent less than the rrp so you have nothing to feel guilty about.

I don't think it would be a good idea to refund any money as the person who bought the book from you paid the price and the transaction is complete.  You already took a loss on the book having paid $70 and then selling it for $45.  Why take another $20 loss.  Also why do you feel soo guilty unless you have an inferiority complex and can't help feeling guilty all the time.  I suggest you move on with your life and put this behind you.  You will soon forget the whole thing and it won't bother you as much as it does now.

Don't feel bad! That was clearly your asking price and they accepted that price. It was their decision to buy it. Still though, in the future you might want to research what others are asking for the same item and compete with their price. Likewise, when people are looking to buy something, they too, should research to find the best price.

Two questions: Does that person need the money back?  Do you not have a need to keep the money?  If yes to either question, give the difference back.  If you answered no to either, keep the difference and stop feeling guilty.  These things happen all the time; one store will sell something cheaper than the other, then people who know they can get it cheaper at the other store will get it there, but those who don't know about the sale may still get it at the more expensive place.  It just depends on your moral standpoint.  If you feel morally that you should return the money, then do.  Don\'t sweat it if the right thing for you at this time is to keep it.  This seems to be an important issue for you, but you can settle it with your own moral standards.

If someone was stupid enough to pay your asking price without looking for a better price, more fool them.

Don't feel guilty for someone else's stupidity.

Think of all the poorly manufactured Made in China products that are sold in the United States for various prices in various companies. Does it make the businesses feel bad? I think this answer is easy.
We live in a capitalist society. Every man for himself. The highest dollar wins.
We also live in a \"Buyer Beware\" culture where consumers need to take the initiative and shop around. It\'s not your fault that you were trying to make a living. This consumer should have shopped on Amazon, if you feel so strongly.
Would you really like to refund the $25? Then advertise another product that\'s comparable to that of Amazon\'s and I assure you, you\'ll get some hits over your Ebay site.
I am a small business owner. I\'ve had some winners and some losers. It\'s just the name of the game.
I sold a skirt for 34.99. The lady turned around and sold it over Ebay for 89.99. I got my buck. She got hers. Neither of us feels badly.
Stop emotionalizing business deals. You\'re making a living. Don\'t feel sorry about it. You have to put food on the table, too, you know. Just don\'t become a crooked business person, is all.
Good luck over Ebay.

Think of it like this. Its not about the money the buyer spent on the book, but the wealth of knowledge they will gain from the textbook by buying it.
This in turn makes u sleep at night rolling around in your cash.

Don\'t even worry about it. Text books sell at all different prices. I sold some of my old college text books and some places offered $7.00 for them while others offered up to $40.00. If the person wanted a cheaper price, they could have shopped around. The one for $20.00 on amazon also could have been all marked up. I bought a cheap one off of Amazon once, and that thing looked like it had been butchered and it stunk.

Of course not.  If the other book was so cheap, it was probably lower quality, more used.  And I\'d guess that the person you sold it to is pretty happy with the price, considering it\'s through ebay - much cheaper than if he/she bought the same new book from a bookstore.

Do not refund the money.  The bidder knew what the price he was bidding was.  If he thought it was too expensive then he should have stopped bidding.  I sometimes go looking for books that are now out of print (which I don\'t understand why, they are such delicious books), little skinny paperback books that originally cost like 75 cents, and people are selling them (not at auction usually) for $200!!  I\'m not a collector, just want to read the darn book again.  So, don\'t feel guilty.  The buyer/bidder had the option of not bidding, and of not bidding higher then the other guy if the price got too high; he could have tried looking elsewhere for a cheaper price.  Obviously, the person who bought your book thought it was worth $45.  If you are feeling too guilty about it, contribute the $25 to a literacy charity or to the public library or something where it will do some good.

The bidder simply bid on a bad deal.  There are lots of places out there with high mark ups and price differences between stores. Next time, you might want to price more honestly so you don\'t look like a scam artist or someone trying to rip people off.   There is no need to refund the money though.
