is it safe to use a debit card/ with the visa on it?

i have a debit card i use, is it safe to use it on the internet to buy things. like ebay or join a dating site?  it has the visa sign on it. i just don't want anyone to get into my checking acct.. is it safe,  thanks,  jim

I've been using my card on the internet for 6 years now and never had a problem. My Dad, who would NEVER use his card over the internet, had his card/bank account compromised when he used it at TJ Max. Be careful! No matter where you use your card...buyer beware!

Your debit card is linked to your checking account. When you use your card, the money will be deducted from your bank account.
